Playing for Keeps - Fall 2007 - Breaking into the game industry is challenging, but certain tips can change your style of play from “Hard” to “Easy.” - Interactive entertainment makes up about $9 billion dollars in the USA alone, and games are expected to surpass film box-office revenues in the next couple years. The market for video games has done nothing but expand, and those who take advantage of it are reaping the benefits. That being said, it’s becoming quite clear that being a nerd is a growing, money-making trend, and the people that make up this demographic are smart, talented, successful individuals. Most of the artists at PAX were young and fresh out of college, if they even had a degree at all. Some of the older men and women were storywriters or were in charge of PR. Teams were rag-tag and fun loving, but undeniably experienced. The field is full of people from all over the globe with many different backgrounds.
Skating in Ohio - Fall 2007 - Skateboarding was perfect for the urban cityside of Youngstown, but lately things just haven't been the same. - Maybe it’s the persona of being the skater that draws people in: The attitude, the clothes, the cuts and bruises, and a touch of anarchy to everything you do. Perhaps it’s the paradox of being a respected risk-taker in an activity that is becoming more and more recognized as a true sport, but at the same time attracting the scorn of authority figures and senior citizens that single out “your kind.” It could also be the obvious chick magnet effect (or not). As for me, I think it’s a great workout and an even better hobby, and I’ve always strived to stand out from the crowd. Whatever the reason, the hard-core purveyors of wood pushing thrive here in Youngstown.
