Update: New Job(s), Graduation Plans John | 11/10/2007
It's been a while since my last update, simply because I've been too busy. I was recently hired as a feature writer, photographer and copy editor for a newspaper in Struthers, Ohio. Subsequently, I became the Hometown Journal's network manager, webmaster, tech support guy and cost analyzer. Go figure. (Visit the Journal's site)
Bottom line: I love it. I'm also currently in queue for a second job working for the local campus twice-weekly paper, so I'll be paying the bills, getting clips and just enjoying my job(s). In other news, I'm also graduating with a bachelors degree in Journalism with a minor in Mathematics by the end of next summer. Other minors may be explored if I'm feeling brave enough (or frugal enough given the money I've wasted on orphan classes). I was also recently inducted into Pi Delta Epsilon / Alpha Phi Gamma Honors Society for Collegiate Journalists.
Frankly, so many things are going right in my life right now that I have no idea what to do with myself.
Everything else is still the same: I'll still gladly do freelance design and writing when beckoned. You can still get a hold of me like you used to, except now everything will be more professionally like.
Spleen out.
Current Project... And Other Updates... John | 10/11/2007
Can you tell that I'm in love with ellipses?
Anyway, my current project is a lovely little blog set up for people in my Magazine Writing course this semester at YSU. It's a livejournal set-up where we are all given a username / password, share it (offering countless opportunities to totally vandalize each other's postings, and yet we choose not to? Hm.), and post to said user's blog. We (as in about 20) are currently working on an ~1000 word piece with topic / theme of our choice. I have chosen to cover the 'cataclysmic slow-down of skateboarding in Ohio', viewable in the magazine section. Others are doing 'life as a zoologist,' 'what happened to Youngstown,' and 'something about kitties.' All are viewable here: And you can leave comments on any post simply by signing up for your free account (before you think I'm soliciting livejournal, think again).
In other news, all of the links at the top now. I might keep it simple without anything on the outsides. If I get a lot of hits though, there might be banners!! Oh no! For now, I'll have various RSS feeds to up my hit-count / search rating / keep you lemmings occupied.
Well Here it is... John | 10/9/2007
Today is the grand opening of my brand new site. It's merely a skeleton of it's former beauty, this will have to do for now. It's still going to have all the good stuff, like graphic art and videos, but now it's dual-wielding a place for my journalistic endeavors. Links are at the top, and will remain there, even after I make a left border and some aesthetic buttons.
This column will be mainly for relevancies and brief commentaries. Stuff like livejournal and blogspot leave me wanting, so all my writing will go here instead :). I already blog my various works regularly on Facebook, so go check it out.
So, besides the perpetual construction, this is it! Fill me in with feedback, and let me know what you think!
